Footloose Freddogg: Juggling The Race Calender
Let's call it "The irony and the agony." I had fully intended to shoot pictures at last weeks inaugural "Young Life 5k" in Milton but I thought the race was on Sunday rather than Saturday because that's what old athletes do: we go dyslexic on race schedules.
I found it ironic that the Young Life race was won by 57 year old Larry Windsor in 21:43 while Alan Quillen 51 was second in 22:16 . I can remember when Alan ran track for Lake Forest in high school at least I think I remember him he has the same mustache and glasses.
This Good Friday is the annual North Philadelphia Catholic 12 to 3 stay in your room and shut up sibling pillow fights conflagration but entries are already closed.
Logan Shutttleworth just 9 years old was the first female in a time of 24:24. Back when I was running 8 year old Logan Short would always run in front just under my feet as I tried to squash him like a Cucaracha. Logan is now selling Red Bull products in the Caribbean having that blond surfer boy fit look and he likes to stay amped on sports drinks.
Gene King 66 who runs just about every race that's out there ran a 24:46 while relentless runner Bob Wolhar 61 ran 26:42.
"The wind on race day was as strong as any race we've had,"said Tim Bamforth. "The head wind made runners look like they were standing still."
The 6 th annual YMCA Youth Triathlon is Saturday April 18 followed by the Sunday April 19 "Run From Education "5k and 10k. Make that "Run For Education" and make sure to wear your IPOD just like students doing their homework.
The Oxford Day 10k is April 25 begging the question "Who goes to Oxford to run 10 kilometers?"
The Race for Autism on Sunday April 26 half marathon, 5k and free rub down day begins at 8 a.m on the Cape Henlopen track.
Here is the question: How many runners who will run the Autism half marathon do the proper training preceding the race? I am reminded of the triple R training theory employed by six sport athlete Randy Johnson prior to the Caesar Rodney Half marathon when Randy was 30 years old.
Rudder on Friday, Rest on Saturday, Race on Sunday. He ran like 1:48 over a hilly course. In running there is no justice!
