Run to the Plunge 5K

The inaugural Run to the Plunge 5K run/walk took place Saturday, Jan. 31, on the Boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue. The event was held in conjunction with the Lewes Polar Bear Weekend Festival and attracted 355 participants to the sunny 28-degree starting line, while 372 registered and 330 finished the race. Runners and walkers enjoyed the oceanfront out-and-back course as they traveled north toward the state park along the Boardwalk and Ocean Drive.

“Our first-ever 5K Run to the Plunge was a huge success,” said Lisa Smith, director of special events for Special Olympics Delaware. Special thanks to sponsors LESO, Beebe Medical Center, Dolle’s and Surf Bagel.
