Local Chris Martin wins 5th Annual Golds Gym "Run into the New Year" 5k
The
fifth annual Golds Gym 5k ran a crowd of 156 into the New Year by way
of Rehoboth Beach last Monday afternoon under clear mild skies on the
final day of the year.
Chris Martin, a former runner out of Sussex
Central High School in Georgetown, wasted little time as he led the
field around the first turn and never looked back throughout the race.
Martin hit the tape in 17:56 all alone, while Mike Sewell was second in
18:12, while Dan MacElrevey of Lewes was third in 18:41. Fourth
place went to Enos Benbow in a time of 18:51, while Carson Smith
rounded out the top five in 19:14.
Master racer Cindy Conant out of
Maryland has won the Golds event in the past and she breezed through
easily for another win by a two and half minute margin on the next
female finisher. 30-34 winner, Susan Dunn, finished 24th in 22:22,
while third
Place went to Master Champion Eileen Noel in 23:07.
Paul Bousel and Eileen Noel won the Master Divisions with 19:35 and 23:07 performances.
