Boardwalk Swim Race Information guide

CHECK-IN...Please check-in to get your Race Swag & Tri Timing Chip between 6:30am - 7:30 am at Grenoble St & The Boardwalk in REHOBOTH BEACH.  The location is just north of the temp RBP Lifeguard Headquarters and Grenoble St runs along side the Henlopen Hotel located at the north end of the Boardwalk.

  • This is a change from the original plan of meeting at the start due to parking at the South Queen St. Location.   There is much more parking at the north end of REHOBOTH BEACH on Grenoble St, around the Henlopen Hotel, around Lake Gerar and around the island on the north side of the Henlopen Hotel.  Once you get parked, please look for the Seashore Strider Team at the end of Grenoble St at the boardwalk.   If you are local, biking and walking are recommended as well.
  • IF YOU CAN NOT CHECK-IN BY 7:30 AM THEN GO RIGHT TO THE START AT GRENOBLE AND I WILL BRING ANY SWAG THAT WE STILL HAVE NOT CHECKED -IN.   PLEASE DO YOUR BEST TOI BE ON-SITE BETWEEN 6:30 - 7:30 AM AT GRENOBLE ST.

  • FOLLOWING CHECK-IN/MEETING...Once you check-in you may head to the start at Queen St located at the south end of the boardwalk if you like.   You may get to the start by walking the boardwalk or driving your car, riding your bike or however you choose to get to the start...give yourself 20 minutes if you are walking to the start.
    • Please Note that at 7:25-7:30am there will be a short briefing by the RBP Staff regarding the safety in the water and the procedure if you need help.

  • SWIM DIRECTION...We will be swimming North entering the ocean at Queen St and exiting the ocean at Grenoble St.  If you do not go around the enter and/or exit buoy at the start and finish you will be disqualified.   You must go to the right of both at the start and finish.

  • WAVES...There will be 2 waves.   This will spread bodies out a bit which will be easier for the guards to watch everyone in the water.
    • The male wave (Division 1) will go in first as close to 8:00am as possible
    • The female wave (Division 2) will go in second 1 minute back
      • All swimmers must go to the right of the buoy

  • AWARDS...Overall, Masters, 10 year...10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+.    Awards will take place on the beach near the Seashore Strider Tent which will have water, watermelon, surf bagels, and peaches for your post-race refreshments.   Awards will be approx. 15-20 min. following the final finisher.
    • Speaking of Surf Bagels...SB donated all the leftover bagels from today and I bet their are 200+ bagels.   Bring a small ziplock bag and take a few home...they freeze great and make great mini pizza's.   The RD does not want to take any back home with him.

  • AT THE START...When you arrive at Queen St. for the start...we do not have alot of time and need to get the race started.   All MALE swimmers need to be lined up between the orange cones and south of the RBP ATV.    The FEMALE swimmers need to form their own line well behind the male swimmers and separate themselves from the male swimmers.   I will have 2 cones for the female swimmers to line up between.
    • Once you line up please stay on the line as we will be double checking our counts with registration and timing chips.
    • We will start the male swimmers with a loud horn
    • We will then bring up the female swimmers
    • We will then start the female swimmers with the same loud horn 1 minute back

  • AT The FINISH... you will cross over the finish line mats and return your tri chip in the blue bucket.   Those who do not return the trip chip will be charged a $10 fee.

  • PROCEEDS will go towards the Tommy TC Coveleski Scholarship which is a $500 scholarship given to a RBP member for educational purposes.

  • BAG DROP...I currently have 27 swimmers who have signed up for a bag drop meaning the SS Staff will take your bag from Queen St Start to Grenoble St Finish.   *Please do not take your bag onto the beach at the start.   The SS Van will be parked at the end of Queen St with the doors open and you will place your bag in the back of the van.   We will drive the van from the start to the finish.
    • You will get a sticker to place on your bag with your swag and it will have your name on the sticker.   Please put the sticker on your bag for ID.   You can also ID yourself as well which never hurts.
    • This will allow you to take a bag to Queen St. if you like.
    • If you would like to place your bag in the van at check-in you can as well and we will keep it until you finish.
